All about Pink Floyd

Hello there! Ever since my friend introduced me to Pink Floyd I have been an avid enjoyer of their work. Additionally, in order to fully inderstand and contextualize their music I've had to look into the history of the band members themselves. All this information should be out for everyone's enjoyment, and not just in my smooth brain cells.

My favorite member of Pink Floyd is Roger Waters, the bassist and vocalist. I believe that when he was in the band, he created the best music ever. Although I am aware of his transgressions. He essentially overtook the band after "Animals" was released and left the band after "The Final Cut" was released. Then he tried to disband the band after he left. He even went to the high court of London to try to disband them and make no one use the name Pink Floyd ever again. Throughout the production of Animals and The Final Cut he was controlling, to the point where he didn't even let the other members have a say in The Final Cut's production. He emotionally abused his band mates and even to this day he is spiteful to his fellow band mates. But this had no negative impact on the music he made.

Prehaps the most interesting era of Pink Floyd were their earlier years with Syd Barrett. Syd used to be the brains of the operation, coming up with music ideas like a work horse. But to create such ideas he used copius amounts of LSD, which resulted in the creation of "Bike" but also his eventual downfall. He started joining in band practicies and shows in more and more of a catatonic state, eventually he just started doing nothing for the whole show and practices. Clearly in an unfit state to play, he was kicked out of the band. But not out of spite, which can be see in the album "Wish You Were Here". An album that is deticated to grief, the grief of a normal life and the grief of their old friend Syd Barrett. Shockingly during that recording Syd Barrett was seen in the recording studio when the band was recording their album. But Syd was changed, he shaved all his hair off inculding his eyebrows and was clearly not there. This gave an extra emotional impact on them which is reflected in the album.

Personally, I don't like David Gilmour's era of Pink Floyd. I believe that he failed to realize what Roger Waters did specifically to make that "Pink Floyd sound", and too scared to strive too far away or make a major flop by changing their voice, he esentially just made remixes of their older music. Not trying anything new and running that formula to the ground. But I do have to say David is more kind and sensible than Roger especially at the helm of the band, but he isn't the greatest at making music.

Anyways aside from all the lore here are my top favorite songs of Pink Floyd!
